Lots of blossoms on the beat up cucumber vines was a pleasant surprise. But the poor watermelon. The vines not only had their leaves ripped off by the hail but nights in the fifties make them shiver. The other squash are ok, just need some sun to ripen.
Some of the acorn squash are not acorn but some strange gourd. It was another day of harvesting in the rain and mud. But the coolers were filled with freshly picked, washed vegetables.
Headlines yesterday: Due to some very cold temperatures at the wrong time Maine peach trees don't have any peaches on them. Some varieties of apples were affected too. We already knew that! The fall forecast says September will be cooler than average. October and November temperatures average to somewhat warmer than average.
I spent the rainy afternoon in town. An oil change and a long list for Sam's, including a large bag of cat food and some cases of goods. I have found Sam's employees to always be pleasant and helpful. Yesterday was an exception. A man who didn't want to bother to walk to my truck out in the parking lot was carefully ignoring me even when I spoke to him. It was only misting. As I was wondering if I could unload the groceries myself, my sister came out of the store and rescued me! One never knows when God is going to send an angel.
Bright sunshine is streaming through the window highlighting the dirty window panes and dusty house. I choose to look out another window and give thanks for a beautiful morning. Wet soil will make pulling weeds easy today. May God bless you, Sally
