8/15/23  It doesn't matter how slow you go, just don't stop going

1.68 inch of rain From Sunday evenings thunderstorm that took out our power.  Power was restored mid morning yesterday. Cloudy, calm and 60 degrees now.  Cloudy skies today, light SE breezes, a high of 77.  A few clouds tonight with a gentle south breeze, a low of 61. Cloudy Wednesday and Thursday, SSE breezes, highs about 75, lows 60-63.  Thunderstorms Friday with a SE breeze, a high of 73, a low of 58.  Cloudy Saturday with a brisk west breeze, a high of 73, a low of 60.  Partly cloudy Sunday with a west breeze, a high of 79, a low of 62.  Partly cloudy Monday, next Tuesday and Wednesday with highs about 74, lows about 54.  NW breezes Monday and Tuesday, WSW Wednesday.  Showers next Thursday, Friday and Saturday morning with NW breezes.  Highs in the low seventies, lows about 54.  About the same temperatures Sunday the 27th and Monday the 28th with partly cloudy skies and NW breezes.

Sunday evening after the storm Jay checked the gardens.  The hail had done a number on them.  They looked much better yesterday morning.  The squash, cantaloupe and watermelon leaves are pretty shredded but he thinks they will be ok.  The leaves were so large and thick they protected the fruit, only a few are marked up.  The rain came so fast that water was running into the basement at a fast rate.  When the power went out it took a bit to get the generator going and cords set up.  The water was well over my boots by the time I went down cellar to unplug the sump pump and plug it into hydro.  The pump did a good job pumping the water out.  After a while we decided the power wouldn't come on so we ran a coe to the water pump.  It immediatly flipped the gfi. The electrician thinks the water pump motor is getting weak.  There is no GFI on the hydro outlet.  Gilbert replaced the pressure switch. It still flipped the GFI on the generator.. The pump might have worked when it was switched back to hydro without changing it.
Bekah helped me put all the cords away.   Mud in the cellar and mud outside made for muddy floors.  Willis didn't help.  He didn't know why the front lawn was a pond but he thought it was wonderful and went swimming before Sally Jo could stop him.  We took him out on a leash the rest of the day.  But when Kaden came he didn't know and let him out.  In the blink of an eye Willis was back in the water!  All in all, a long day.  Added to very little sleep Sunday night I slept until after six this morning.
Sunday's customers had pretty well emptied the coolers.  By noon Jay had them all filled again.  There were so many cucumbers he had to start the big refrigerator to hold the overflow.  If today's picking is as good we will have pickling cucumbers for sale.
May God bless you on this day.  Sally
