7/26/23 We can live with or without money but it isn't a life without love.
Yesterday was all about hay. It was a hay day like we haven't had in a few years. The weather of the last few years has been dry enough so Doug could stretch out the haymaking, making easy haydays for the young crew and himself. This year the weather meant making just as much hay as possible in as short a time as possible. Wagon load after wagon load rolled in the yard even though he was selling some hay out of the field. There are still a few wagon loads to unload this morning. In the morning Jay picked vegetables and Bekah watered. Sweet onions are added to the choices in the stand. People have been waiting for them, sweet onion and cucumber sandwiches are a favorite. I had a doctor's appointment in the morning. In the afternoon I did some watering and picked blueberries. A good picking. Perhaps because people had been too busy to walk out to the patch for a snack.
These hot days are why we plant soaker hoses with our plants and seeds. Even though there has been lots of rain, the soil right around the growing zone dried out quickly. Cucumbers and onions need an inch or two of water a week. Containers need water daily, some twice a day. Raised beds dry out fast, they need a soaking every few days. Today I'll take water over to the church for the begonias. Cooler weather comes next week, just in time for pickling and canning to start.
May God bless you on this day, Sally
