Soil is a wonderful, living breathing thing, it is not not dirt. Dirt is a smudge or stain.

I spent some time last night looking at different weather forecast and weather patterns. All forecasts seem to agree this will be hot and here in Maine a somewhat dry summer. The is a saying, rainy first week of May will be followed by rain every day. I don't think this month will be quite that bad but I do think it will be cloudy with lots of showers. The full moos is the 21st but i don't think we will see a frost because of clouds. I'm starting some cucumbers for people who want to plant them early and protect the plants in some way. Without protection I don't think warm weather crops can go out before Memorial week end or the first week in June. My packets of cucumber seeds to sell in the store should be here today or tomorrow.
A lot of flowers are out on the display benches. The coldframe the perennial were in is full of flowers that need more time or need to harden off. I'm moving germaniums and scented germaniums I started in the house to another cold frame today to transition to the outside. I washed winter's dust off the hummingbird feeders so I can put them out. Female redwing blackbirds showed up yesterday along with some grackles. I am so ready for the grackles to be gone! Everytime I think they are gone some more show up. At least they have gone to roost in the evening when the lonely cardinal shows up. He eats for awhile than sings his mating song until dark.
Have a good day, Sally
