A dry day yesterday had me scared this rain would pass us by. We still need more but we got enough to make a difference. About an inch. i mulched the onions with straw in the mist yesterday afternoon so it was wet down. Today we are going to mulch the potatoes with hay and hopes Wednesday's showers will wet it down.
This is also moving day for many plants. Fortunately I have lots of help coming today. Perennials will be moved out of a cold frame, tender annuals put in their place. Usually broccoli, cabbage and the like go in that cold frame. But because this is late they are going in the back room where the extra warmth will make them grow faster. Lots of flowers will be going out on the display benches. We have more tomatoes, peppers and flowers to transplant so the greenhouse will still be very full.
Gilbert planted his cucumber, watermelon etc. yesterday. He will be setting them out under wire hoops and remay. He planted a few for me. I've some hoops to set up but that takes time. I'll be planting pots of those seeds this week for myself and for sale. I put most of mine out a little later and just put remay over the plants. The earliest most people set them out is Memorial week end or the first week in June. There is a full moon the 21st.
It is time to put out hummingbird feeders. The fourth is the earliest I've ever seen one but I like to make sure food is available if they are early. The latest I've seen them come is about the 12th. It is cool enough so I'm not worried about the food fermenting or molding. We are having to feed the bees, they don't like to fly at these temperatures.
Have a good day, Sally
