No one will miss yesterday. Such a cold, windy, raw day that Gilbert put wood on the greenhouse fire in the middle of the day and I kept it going last night. Tiffany mostly worked outside in the perennial display, rosemarie worked on transplanting. She also planted more color bowls. I took the truck back to the dealership for an updated inspection sticker. It is a 2015 truck and they forgot to put an updated sticker on it when Doug bought. We'd been driving around with an expired sticker since February 29th.
We have lots of hummingbirds now. Today I'll fill all the feeders. I couldn't fill two of them yesterday. The wind was blowing so hard they were horizontal, dumping out the water. The pair of rose breasted grosbeaks are coming to the feeders a lot. We still have some grackles around.
I'll set out more lettuce soon as I get chance. Swiss chard, beets and peas are all up. Carrots and a second planting of beets have been planted. I haven't check to see if the potatoes are up. I'm going to start setting out soakers hoses. Onions first, they need a lot of water to do well. It looks to me like we should plan on a dry season. I'll give the soil chance to warm up from this cold spell, then I'll plant the celery. The cole crops can be planted.
On cold cloudy days I water as little as possible in the greenhouses. They will all need water today. As well as all the outside flowers, the wind has bee drying them out. My hanging plants are out, i watered them with warm water last night. Some of them are sitting on the ground so they wouldn't be whipped around by the wind. Tiffany and Rosemarie took the impatiens inside yesterday morning.
I am very happy to see the change in the forecast. Have a good day, Sally
