Gilbert got a load of mulch yesterday. Why he threw mulch on the cardboard we have on the berry patch to smother the quack grass and wild mint I mulched around each bush. I tucked wet newspaper around the bush and covered it with peat moss. Gilbert had already worked some organic Hollytone blueberry fertilizer around each plant. I have forty bushes. I've been happy with their production, I'm expecting a lot more this summer. Besides what I put in the freezer last summer I was able to pick Darel a couple, three cups of blueberries every day for a good six weeks. We all ate some fresh.
A strong south wind blew yesterday, the highest temperature i saw was 68.7 . Darel rode the tractor out to see what we were doing. He notice the stovepipe for the greenhouse had blown off. It had rusted enough to fall victim to the wind. I went to Bailey's and got new stovepipe and cap. Gilbert put it together, slide it in place and Andrew showed up just when the job was easier with two people. My job was to hold the ladder. How blessed we are that it happen yesterday and not during the cold weather coming. We had periods of pouring rain yesterday evening but the rain stopped long enough to put the pipe in. And it was all done in plenty of time for me to start the fire last night.
Today is another pleasant day. I am planning to put cardboard and mulch along the edge of the ground cover of the shrub display. Last year weeds and grass were creeping in. I'll get back to pruning the wave petunias when it is cold outside.
Enjoy your day, Sally
