Doug left very early yesterday morning to build fence down east. About 7:30 we got a call from him that Kendra had been in an accident near the intersection of 11 and 11A. It was a bad accident but God was watching over everyone, no one was seriously hurt. Three children from the Amish family who live on the farm down the road were in their buggy driving to school.
As Kendra pulled out to pass them a car pulled out of 11A very fast and came towards them. It never stopped. As Kendra tried to get back in her lane she hit the buggy. She did not know where the car came from but the Charlston firechief was behind her and saw the whole thing. The children went flying, the buggy was smashed to smithereens, the horse was injured and had to be put down. The accident happened in sight of the children's home. Their mother went to the hospital with them in the ambulance where they were checked for injuries. A neighbor went to the hospital to be with Mary, she brought them home. The father of the family is rather small in stature but he is a big man. Tears were streaming down his face as he tried to comfort his horse, he gave permission to have it put down and then tried to comfort the other children in the family who had run to the scene, while shielding them from seeing the horse. I'm sure his mind was also on the three children who had left in the ambulance. With all that he took time to try to comfort Kendra. Placing his hand gently on her shoulder he told her the children were not seriously hurt, they would be ok. It was an accident, accidents happen. She was upset, he took time to tell her a couple of times before he went back to his children. How many of us would have cared for Kendra?
Thankfully the rest of the day was uneventful. The straw was all put in the barn. Jay and ekah were pleased with how heavy the bales were, the farmer had packed them tight.
Doug was just here, it was a buckboard not a buggy.
God is good. May your day be blessed. Sally
