A pleasant day yesterday. It never did rain. All the lawns are mowed, several remowed because the first mowing was ragged. Lots of showers in the forecast but no heavy rains so they should be able to keep up. Jay and Bekah have the vegetable gardens weeded, I can't say the same for my flower beds. Bekah has been bumping up the perennials she started into pots for sale.
Jordn puts in Anderson windows, his crew are father Mike and brother Mike. They bring huge pieces of cardboard that the windows are packed in whenever we need it. Sally Jo had weed whacked the area in front of the horse barn where I plant sunflowers. Even though no burdock has been allowed to grow there for three or four years, seeds still send up plants. Yesterday I pulled staples from the cardboard and Jay laid it over the patch. I've started sunflowers. I'll cut holes in cardboard and plant them. No time to plant them last night as there was a farm team ball game.
The truck load of compost they bought is almost gone. They put the rest in a couple of barrels. I ordered a truck load of mulch to be dropped there. I'll use it in my flower gardens and Jay and Bekah have lots of places they'll use it. They have been busy in the nursery and vegetable garden, their pollinator garden is next on the to do list.
I'm still putting out sunflower seeds for the birds. Lots of purple and gold finches, nuthatches, titmouse, woodpeckers and sparrows. An occasional red winged black bird or grackle. Once in a while a blue jay, dove or chickadee. Even with water everywhere birds come to the maple syrup pan pond. There are lots of catbirds this year.
I have a doctor's appointment in Millinocket tosay. I probably won't get much else done. My sister is taking me, giving us a chance to visit. May God bless you on this day, Sally
