A pleasant day yesterday. We enjoyed the weather knowing that unsettled, damp and chilly weather is in the forecast. Church was followed by a family dinner. Jay and Bekah loaded an inclosed trailer with hay for delivery today. The need for heaters in the outside greenhouses and cold frames was borderline last night. Bekah decided not to turn them on. They will have to be on low the next several nights to keep the temperatures up to fifty. I read that migrating birds are returning a week to ten days earlier than the average date.. This chilly April may make them wish they'd waited a bit.
They also planted our cucumbers in pots. We can start our plants early because Jay plants them in black plastic and covers them with remay. The plants are protected from the wind and cucumber beetles. The remay tunnel stays about four degrees warmer than the outside temperature. The plastic warms up the soil for the roots.
This afternoon Jay will pick up the potatoes. The soil is warm enough to plant them. When they get planted depends on when the tractor tire is repaired and how much rain we get. Nursery deliveries are supposed to start coming this week.
May God bless you on this day, Sally
