Yesterday was a very quiet day.  I fell asleep mid morning, waking when Lil Andrew stopped in to see if I needed anything.  On his way out he stopped and put wod on the greenhouse stove.   It didn't get as warm a forecast but it got warm enough so the heat from the wood stove kept the furnace from coming on.  After visiting with Kirby for a while in the afternoon I turned the thermostat down to 65 from 68. He sets his greenhouses at 65 and he doesn't have a wood stove to raise the temperature any higher.  He counts on the sun and there isn't much of that in the two week forecast.  Those of us who have fewer years of experience in the greenhouse business are fortunate to have him for a mentor.
I spent some time with the culture pages in the catalogs looking for ways to tweak what we are doing.  Little things add up to save money or grow better plants.
I got to see Sally Jo and congratulate her.  You may remember a while back Sally got student of the quarter at her highschool.  This quarter she is student of the quarter at UTC.  Chosen from all those students from all those schools!  She is studying horticulture.  Besides high school and UTC she has an afterschool job, volunteers at her church and cares for her animals!  And always has time to be a caring person with a smile.
May God be with you this day, Sally
