Darel had a very good day yesterday. Pastor Cindy visited from New Hampshire. Raymond stopped by and he stayed awake the whole time Raymond was here! And he was up to taking on the phone so he got regular updates on the Conn. game from a friend. We also got the good news that our church has a new pastor that the pastoral committee likes very much. Our pastor is retiring in June.
I went out o check the calibrachoas about 6 and they were floating. this had happened one other year but we though we good this year since there was bare ground for a good eight feet all around the greenhouse. I texted Lil Andrew and started carrying in pots and saucers to set the trays on so the flowers would be above the sills. Soon Lil Andrew showed up to help me. After we got the trays of flowers above water he moved enough wood from the back room into the woodbox by the stove to last me until Conner gets here Wednesday night. A little while later big Andrew showed up with Lil Andrew, he couldn't imagine what lil Andrew was telling him. At midnight the water had drained down enough so i could cover the flowers with their relay blanket. I'm hoping there is enough sun to get that greenhouse very warm this afternoon. i don't have to run a hose today to water them! Water was running through the horse barn too. The chickens have a deep bedding pack so they were fine.
In one day most of Gilbert's fields became bare. The snow came so early last fall the grass is still green. The fields were covered with grackles with a few robins mixed in. There were places where we had walked yesterday morning in sneakers that were over my boots. Most of the snow in the kitchen garden has melted. I can walk to the feeders and the pond is uncovered.
Today I will make sure the petunias and calibrachoas and petunias are all covered and the electric heaters going so they don't feel the cod winds and tonight's low temperature. I'll send in my order for seed packages to sell so they are here for the weekend when i open to sell pansies. Just need to get Thursday behind us! Have a good day, Sally
