3/7/19
On this first day of Lent we are thankful we can look forward to Easter.

Clear, SW breeze and 4 degrees. 0 out by the bird feeders.  Partly cloudy with a brisk WNW breeze and a high of 20, dropping to 2 tonight.  Some clouds tomorrow with a stiff WSW breeze, a high of 32 and a low of 12.  Mostly sunny Saturday with a NNW breeze, a high of 32 and a low of 6.  I don't think we'll see any more single numbers after Saturday night.  A stiff ESE breeze Sunday with a high of 34, 1-3 inches of snow late Sunday before becoming rain showers over night as the temperature rises from a low of 31.  Cloudy Monday with a brisk west breeze, a high of 45 and a low of 28.  Strong NW breezes Tuesday with clouds, a high of 34 and a low of 16.  Mostly sunny Wednesday with a NNW breeze, a high of 38 and a low of 17.  Our last night in the teens?  Mostly cloudy Thursday with a brisk SSW breeze, a high of 34 and a low of 34.  Rain/snow showers next Friday with a brisk south breeze, a high of 47 and a low of 34.  The sap will run.  Snow to rain next Saturday with a WNW breeze, a high of 44 and a low of 28.  Pleasant Sunday the 17th, and the next few day with snow showers the end of the week.  Highs in the forties and lows in the low twenties.
Darel had a pleasant day yesterday.  Late afternoon, between fie filling, we went to Bangor.  We though about going to the Ash Wednesday service but I wasn't up to changing my fire schedule or missing an hours sleep.  Where I'm getting up with the greenhouse fires I need to go to be by eight.  I think going to the service would have tired Darel out enough so getting back in the truck would have been harder.
One of the things we went to Bangor was a new hose.  We use two 120 foot hoses to get water to the greenhouse.  One is an older one with weak spots.  Starting the 14th I'm planning to leave the hose out so don't want any weak spots bursting.  I'll leave the water trickling so it doesn't freeze.  A fitting on the connecting hose snapped  Tuesday when we had to run water in the cold.  We should run water today but will put it off until tomorrow's warmer temperatures.
Andrew found a cut in the greenhouse plastic due to ice.  He tapped it up, the tape was still holding good this morning.  He says the plastic on the hoop house is damaged enough so it will have to be recovered.  I always plan to move plants into the hoop house the first of April.  Lots of snow will have to melt to get it recovered by April 1st.
The boxes of plants came yesterday.  I know I can't trust Fedex so I watch for the delivery.  Sure enough the driver was getting ready to just sit them on a snow bank when i saw him.  Even after I pointed out that they were live plants he set on box in the snow and started rearranging his truck.  I reminded him they were live plants and he bought them in.  The plants all seem ok.
       Have a good day, Sally
