Reading is a ticket to wherever you want to go.
In the last few minutes winds have dropped to under 20mph. Highest in the last hour 26. Around midnight 39. My machine is on the south side of the roof so it doesn't''t read the highest. But we have not lost power! I'm told anyplace the wind hits a road it is polished ice. It is 5 degrees so the salt isn't helping the sand stick. WNW winds will continue today and tonight with a high of 13 and a low of -4 tonight. Bright sun will warm up the greenhouse today. The section where we put the boxes of plugs and cuttings is 53 degrees, the rest of the greenhouse is 48. Another cold day tomorrow with some clouds, not quite as windy, a high of 16 and a low of -5. Winds are forecast to die down Wednesday evening with only NW breezes Thursday, lots of sun will give a high of 25. Dropping to 0 Thursday night. Partly cloudy Friday with a WSW breeze, a high of 32 and a low of 9. A NE breezes Saturday with a high of 36. 3-5 inches of snow Saturday night with a low of 23. Morning snow showers Sunday with a brisk NW breeze, a high of 33 and a low of 12. Mostly sunny next Monday and Tuesday with stiff NW breezes, highs about 25 and lows of 4. Cloudy next Wednesday, the 8th and Thursday, the 9th, with NW breezes, high s about 26 and lows about 9. Snow showers the next five days with NW breezes and highs slowly rising each day to 37 on the 12th. And lows will start being in the twenties.
Darel had a good day yesterday. He didn't fell bad about Andrew going for propane instead of me when Andrew came home and told about cars all over the road.
The boxes of plugs and cuttings came about two instead of six. Which was good as there was time for the greenhouse to warm back up after opening the door to carry them in. Andrew brought in enough wood so we won't have to open doors to bring wood in until Thursday. I bought in all the supplies we needed form the Quonset garage for the week, for same reason. Keep the doors closed. We are going to have to crack the door tomorrow afternoon to water. and the water will cool down the greenhouse. I'm hoping the sun will warm it back up. I am so thankful the greenhouse is banked with snow. Keeping the doors shut and lots of sun will warm all the soil up several degrees today.
I often just put on boots and a coat when I have to feed the birds in the morning. This morning I put on full winter gear! i couldn't put food out last night it would have blown away! I walked on the drifts far enough to throw some seeds under the bushes. For several days I have only seen two female cardinals instead of the three I was seeing.
The hens would like some hot water. I'll have to keep the eggs collected so they don't freeze. Gilbert just drove in, he has been plowing drifts. Wind has picked up again. Have a good day, Sally
