Tiffany put new soil in the pie pumpkin tires yesterday and i got most of them planted. We also got a lot of weeding done. Rose and Tiffany finished planting the fall mums. Despite the wind and cold we had quite a few customers. We weren't the only ones taking advantage of no black flies even though we all had sweatshirts and jackets on.
Lots of goldfinches at the feeders plus a pair of cardinals and rose breasted grosbeaks. And of course the sparrows. I don't remember seeing cardinals in summer before. The babies in the nest of the meadow sparrow in the cold frame have flown away. People often comment on how many birds we have around us, we are very fortunate.
The wood has dried off enough for Darel to start bringing it in again. Doug's hired man has it all split. I found a patch of dock in the ditch on the corner behind the house. Art weed whacked it down. I have enough problems with bamboo behind the house without adding dock. Last fall some corn silage was spilled on that corner, I wonder if the dock seed was in it.
The cloudy sunshine says today will be nicer than yesterday, time to take advantage of it. Enjoy your day, Sally
