Yesterday was a cold, damp day. The pellet stove was on all day. But it never actually rained and there were no blackflies. A good day for weeding onions, a slow tedious job. But they are done and they got started on the beets.
Lamium (dead nettle) is very pretty and very useful as a ground cover, pollinators love it. It also has medicinal uses. But it will take over a flower bed if allowed. Yesterday I used a pointed hand tool and dug it out of the flower bed under the front room windows. Also bindweed, thistle and some grass where there wasn't lamium, Maegin mulched the perennials that were there, planted more perennials and mulched them well. There are two hibiscus in that bed, they aren't showing any green yet. There are some tiny sprouts on the one in the kitchen garden. It is often late June before hibiscus shows signs of life.
More flowers around the door today. Gilbert is rotiling a place for his pumpkins. Then he's coming down here and tilling the rest of the vegetable garden. Besides flowers I'm doing laundry and mulching where Maegin weed whacked the other day. May your day be blessed, Sally
