In January when Bekah ordered the onion plants there was a calendar to click on for the delivery date the customer wanted. Yesterday as their customers, including us, started getting onion plants Johnny's found out the calendar didn't work. Gilbert rotilled a high dry place for his onions. The soil temperature was 44, onion plants need at least 40. Gilbert is planting his today and rototilling where Jay wants to plant ours. I called Johnny's, the man told me to open and spread out the bundles and put them in a cool dry place. The plants would be just fine for three weeks. That is what we will do with the plants people are buying from us. They are the large, sweet Alisha Craig onion.. We like them so well that we don't grow winter onions. They keep until January. We chop and freeze enough onions to last until the new crop this next year. That is the plan, we didn't freeze enough last year, I bought onions last week. They are the onions our customers prefer. Maegin found the last two gallons of blueberries in the freezer. We will be out of blueberries before the new crop is ready too.
We will be getting our seed potatoes next week. The soil temperature needs to be between 45 and fifty for potatoes to sprout well. With the nursery orders coming next week we probably won't get potatoes planted until the last week in April.
The sledding pile melted enough so all the broken branches from the pine tree could be picked up and taken to the dump yesterday. Along with some broken display benches and other brush. Now that the nursery and front yard are cleaned up we'll start on the back yard.
May your day be blessed, Sally
