With winter trying to stay and spring trying to come no trays of plants will be placed close to the outside walls of the greenhouse. This means extra work rearranging the trays when spring temperatures win. but it can get pretty cold next to a plastic wall at -3 with a brisk NW breeze! Even with the chilly forecast Monday they will have to make sure the greenhouse doesn't get too hot. There is lots of heat in the sunshine now. What will the midweek storm do to the snow pack? The hens are slowly increasing production. I hope Sunday and Monday don't slow them down.
The last seed back order came in yesterday's mail. Sekh and Gilbert spent a half hour discussing the best way to plant carrots. It just isn't possible to plant the seeds thinly enough to avoid hand thinning of the seedlings. Too crowded and you don't get nice carrots. But there isn't enough garden space to have blank spaces in the rows.
Yesterday's sunshine and warmer temperatures made traveling by horse and buggy easier. A young Amish man stopped by to talk to Bekah about growing seedlings and if he could order some ahead of time. He had two little ones with him. They were dressed in layers, making them look nearly as round as they were tall. Even so they were glad to come stand by the cook range why Dad and Bekah talked. Some other Amish families have Bekah start seedlings. She doesn't ask for a deposit from the Amish, their word has always been good.
May your day be blessed, Sally
