12/30/17
If God expected us to get everything done today he wouldn't have made tomorrow. Or next year!

Mostly clear, calm and - 9.  A high of 7 today with a light WNW breeze, dropping to - 7 tonight.  Sunny tomorrow  with strong WNW breezes, 10-15mph, a high of 3 and a low of -12. Sunny Monday, a little less breeze, a high of 1, with a low of -14.  Sunny Tuesday, still a WNW breeze, a high of 3 and a low of -12.  Some clouds Wednesday with a light WSW breeze, a high of 15 and a low of 4.  That is correct, 4, not -4!!  As of now the forecast is for 2-6 inches of snow Thursday with strong north breezes, a high of 19 and a low of 2.   Snow totals may increase as the storm gets closer.  Morning clouds/afternoon sun Friday with a strong WNW breeze, a high of 4 and a low of -17.  Sunny next Saturday with a WNW breeze, a high of minus 2 and a low of -15.  Sunny next Sunday with a WNW breeze, a high of 5 and a low of -5.  Still cold but more seasonal temperatures the week of January 8th as it warms up to snow off and on all week.
The cold is settling into our house like it is everywhere but thanks to the pellet stove Darel is still comfortable in the front room. He wore a sweatshirt and stayed under a blanket.   Probably because his pulse was quite low on both sides.  We did go get chicken feed yesterday but I warmed the truck up before we left.  Cold or not he was happy to get out.  This cold spell will seem long to him because i'm not planning on getting out very much.
I get out about four times a day with hot water for the hens.  This is a tough spell for farmers as they try to keep their animals comfortable.
Even those with totally enclosed barns are dealing with frozen pipes.  Equipment used to feed animals complains about starting in the cold.  And sometimes just won't start.  Cold equipment brakes down faster too.
It turned cold so fast after the last storm I didn't open up the path to the greenhouse.  Today I need to get out there to get trays and inserts to start seeds.  I'll be leaving the seeds on the island in the kitchen until they germinate and need more light.  I have shelves set up in the laundry with lights.  But it is too cool for seeds to germinate in there this week.  Seven weeks until I start the greenhouse fires.  I am so thankful for the snow cover even if i do have to wade through it to get to the greenhouse.
      Have a good day, Sally
