I didn't get much done before I left for the church meeting yesterday. As meetings go it was a food meeting. time will tell of its value. I came home, put a load of clothes in the washer and took a nap, Got up and put another load in the washer. Why they washed I put wood on the fires, took care of the birds and chickens and a few other things. How blessed we are with automatic washers!
I don't remember the day we got our first automatic washer. I do remember the day we got our Maytag wringer washer with a gasoline motor, the exhaust was a hose out a window. We lacked 3 days of living five years on the homestead with out electricity. About the second year we dug a well and put a hand pump on the kitchen sink. That was a red letter day. Until then we had hauled water from the creek. I washed unmentionables, baby clothes and diapers by hand. Most of the time Darel took the rest of the clothes to work and washed them at the laundromat on the way home. A few days after we got the hand pump we got the washer. What a beautiful thing that was. I remember standing there watching the washing machine wash the clothes! With pleasure I hung my trusted washboard on the wall for decoration! That was fifty some years ago and I still get a thrill just remembering that day.
It is cloudy but there is enough sunshine to warm up the greenhouse. I'n just going to Sunday School this morning. I won't know until mid morning if the stoves will need wood on them. There is enough sun so the greenhouse will be OK until I get home. Now I need to take hot water out to the hens and put wood on the fires. It looks like this will be the last morning I'll have to do thaw the hen's water this winter. And it won't be totally froze. Such an early spring.
Enjoy your day, Sally
