Yesterday was a quiet day. As I heard stories of frozen pipes I was thankful ours weren't. We have so much wind up here on the hill that we are better prepared when the wind is accompanied by the cold. Even though the wind had stopped, Bekah went to the barn last thing last night to run water. And again first thing this morning. I took warm water out to the hens in the morning and evening. Bekah went out mid day because I was in Dover getting bloodwork.
We bought a used butter churn, a gem dandy, it came yesterday. Gem Dandy is a well known old brand. There are plans to restart the Alabama manufacturing that made them. We have our name on the list, but the cost may be too much for us. Today Bekah will try it out. The kitchen aid mixer makes good butter but only a half pound at a time. This is a three gallon churn. We have an electric churn, a gem dandy.. It is a one gallon churn and has a plastic jar. With the concern about microplastics, Bekah doesn't want to make butter in plastic. We will continue to look for glass churning jars. Bekah uses glass pickle jars and 2 quart mason jars for milk. She is always looking for glass.gallon jars.
Christmas shopping and decorating is today's plan. We expect lots of Christmas tree customers. May your day be blessed.
Sally
