After much thought and discussion it has been decided that Jay's Dad will repair the wood stove so that it is good to use this year.  Meanwhile they will watch for a furnace to replace it.  Doug has one in storage they are going to check out.  The stove we have is borderline large enough to heat the greenhouse on cold days.  Before the propane furnace I had a second stove in the headhouse.  Last year when there was trouble with the furnace they had an electric  heater and a buddy heater going and just barely kept the greenhouse warm enough..
Today is winter sowing day.  Seeds that need the freezing and thawing of winter/early spring are planted in milk jugs.  The jugs are cut in half leaving a hinge of plastic so the top can be opened.  They are sealed shut after planting and put outside or in the greenhouse back room.  They need to have the lid taken off or on warmer winter days be opened and closed back up at night.  A successful way to start hard to germinate seeds and very economical.  The sun is strong enough now so that the greenhouse warms up enough days to be pleasant to work in.  But the soil for planting is frozen.  Jay has to bring it in and set it by the cook range.
May God bless you on this day, Sally
