Yesterday the warmth came in too slowly to put down an ash path. The strong south winds would have blown them away. Some places lost power but ours never flickered. The tree trimmers did a good job! Late afternoon when I realized it wasn't going to warm up I loaded the trash in the truck and took it to the dumpster. I'd been cleaning so there were old catalogs and such making the bags heavy for me to carry anyway. I did the evening chores because I was out there.
I drove out to the greenhouse in the morning and started the wood stove. I was happy to message Jay's dad that it worked just fine. I filled it with wood so the greenhouse would be warm for Heather and Darel to work in there. Darel is finishing the coldframe lids and heather is working on the new Country Junction sign. I won't start a fire again until next Thursday. I made a double batch of cookies yesterday, one for the freezer. To get out that first week in March when all the boxes of plants come in. We hope there is a warm day to move plants from the house to the greenhouse.
I filled the bird feeders. The sanded back deck is protected from the wind. The sunflower seed hulls drift down into the paths acting like sand so they aren't slippery. The three cardinal pairs are starting to feed close together as are the doves. They know spring is coming! Both doves and cardinals will start nesting very soon.
Enough ice melted overnight so the ash path is quite visible. I will renew it first thing this morning. I'm looking forward to my doctor's appointment.
May God be with you this day, Sally
