Darel had a quiet day yesterday, comfortable with lots of napping.  Up and down pulse said something was going on but nothing major.  An unexpected visit from the nurse.  After last Monday she wanted to check on him after an active weekend.
There is about 3 feet of snow, ten inches on top of crusted old snow.  i walked out to the bee hives, only broke through the crust once.  No bees.  local bee keepers told me not to bother to walk out, there wouldn't be any bees.  I knew one hive was gone but the other one was in such good shape going into the winter.  So I'm ordering bees today.  Even though I do everything i can to help the wild pollinators there is no substitute for a working bee hive.  Plus I want the honey.
It was warm enough so it was easy to clean ice and wet feed out of the bird feeders. I opened up the way to the greenhouse.  Many bucket loads with my tractor made quite a pile of snow.  Then Doug came along with his big loader- gone in about three scoops.  We have many huge snow piles!
Some of the perennials I started need transplanted today.  All of the petunias are up.  they will be just the right size to put in hanging baskets when i start the fires.  It looks like the 24th will be warm enough to move plants.
Spring in five weeks.  enjoy today, Sally
